Studies have shown a disruption of basic auditory skills among individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia. Common auditory deficits include difficulty perceiving changes in pitch, difficulty understanding and poor tolerance when listening in noise, and difficulty remembering information learned through listening. Understanding subtle auditory cues is important in a range of social environments. Individuals who struggle to hear changes in pitch have difficulty identifying the intent or mood of others during conversations.
Clients with schizophrenia participate in our Brain Training with Music program as well as auditory training specific to their auditory deficits.
Individuals with a schizophrenia diagnosis must be fully medicated and accompanied by a family member to participate in on-site therapy.
